Growing AI Overview Visibility by 56% for Pool Rental Searches

We’ve improved organic rankings for our client, ‘the AirBnB of swimming pools’, whilst extending that work into Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) to make sure the brand was mentioned for more conversational terms that showed an AI Overview (AIO).

Challenge

Our client was founded as the “Airbnb for swimming pools” after their co-founder struggled to find anywhere offering private pool hire near him during the pandemic. His father had already proven the model worked, renting out his own pool to local families, neurodiverse children, and people who couldn’t make public ‘family hour’ sessions. It is a UK-wide platform connecting pool owners with people who want a private swim.

As search behaviour shifted, many queries that mattered such as “rent out my swimming pool” began returning a Google AI Overview before any organic results. If the brand wasn’t named or cited inside that AI-generated answer, it risked losing visibility on exactly the searches that bring new pool hosts and guests onto the platform, regardless of where it ranked in traditional results.

Our brief was simple: to improve organic rankings whilst at the same time extending that work into Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) to make sure the brand was mentioned for more conversational terms that showed an AI Overview (AIO).

Solution

The wider SEO campaign focused on over 50 keywords, whilst the GEO focussed on a sub set of 14 commercial searches that showed an AI overview. They ranged from owner-side terms like “rent out my swimming pool”, “pool rental insurance” and “pool host insurance UK”, to discovery terms like “hire out my pool”, “list your pool for hire” and “earn money from my swimming pool”.

To improve AI Overview mentions our strategy focussed on:

- Reworking and creating pages that directly and clearly answered the questions behind each keyword, in the structured, scannable format AI Overviews favour for sourcing answers.

- Strengthening coverage of the pool hosting and pool hiring topic so Google’s AI systems recognised the site as a credible, UK-specific source, not just another listings platform.

- Monitoring AI Overview appearances, mentions and citations alongside traditional rankings, so the team could see exactly which pages and queries were converting into AI Overview placements and refine accordingly.

Results

The results showed up directly in Google’s own AI Overviews. For the query “rent out my swimming pool”, Google’s AI Overview now recommends listing on “dedicated pool-sharing platforms” and names our client as the first example. That single placement puts them in front of every searcher at the exact moment they’re deciding how to rent out their pool, with no click required to see the recommendation.

Across 3 months, AI Overview visibility across its tracked keyword set improved sharply:

- Brand now mentioned in all 14 tracked AI Overviews, an increase of 56%.
- 91.5% AI overview share of voice vs competitors.
- 73% citation rate.
- An average citation position of 3.1

The brand was featured in high commercial intent searches such as “rent out my swimming pool” and “swimming pool rental income”. They also featured in more informational research questions such as “ways to make money from your pool” and “can you rent out your swimming pool in the UK”. Appearing as Google’s recommended example for the category’s most important searches is a significant result.

Beyond the numbers, the campaign demonstrates one of the first sharing-economy platforms in its space to be visibly optimised for AI-driven search, ahead of their competitors.
